Soil Health Matters: Multispecies Pastures & Foliar Fertilisers
Join Milawa Markwood Oxley Landcare Group and Grant Sims from Down Under Ag for a practical learning workshop designed as a 101 introduction to foliar fertilisation, bio-fermentation and multi-species pastures.
The session will focus on:
Where foliar nutrition fits in with modern farming systems
Understanding when, why, and how to use foliar fertilisers
Practical decision-making: brew vs buy
Clear, real-world do's and don’ts of foliar application and making bio fermented liquids
Multi species pastures design and how to manage
The morning will begin at the Everton Hall, followed by an on-farm demonstration at Alan Wood's property, Markwood.
Lunch and light refreshments provided.
BYO camp chairs and water bottles.

Grant Sims specialises in designing multi-species cover crops, forages and custom seed blends that improve soil health, increase resilience and enhance whole-farm productivity. On his 3,440-hectare cropping operation, Grant integrates livestock and plants to build soil health.
Joel Williams is a healthy soils advocate and presenter on soil biology, plant nutrition and integrated approaches of agroecological farming. Joel will discuss intercrops and companion planting with a particular focus on the benefits nutrient interactions & optimising nutrient use efficiencies.

The Wilmot Field Day, proudly presented by Macdoch Australia and Impact Ag Australia, is a flagship event in the Australian agricultural calendar and has grown to become Australia’s Premier RegenAg Event. Now entering its eighth year, this two-day event is held at the iconic Wilmot Cattle Co property in the New England region of NSW. Scheduled for 4-5 March 2026, the Wilmot Field Day is an immersive experience that attracts a national audience of influential and forward-thinking graziers and producers, agribusiness leaders, and sustainability champions.
The program features a dynamic conference lineup, hands-on workshops, and guided paddock walks that bring climate-smart farming practices to life. It provides a unique opportunity for attendees to explore how planned grazing and regenerative agriculture can drive productivity, resilience, and profitability while building natural capital.
Co-hosted by Coles' 2015 Farmer of the Year, Victorian producer Grant Sims, and plant and soil health educator, Joel Williams, this interactive session will explore the relationship between soils, crops, pastures and livestock in a multi-enterprise farming system.
Together, Grant and Joel will delve into the science of plants and soils, discussing seed treatments and biologicals, plant nutrition, livestock integration and multi-species pastures, fodders and cover crops.
Hear from Grant about the transformation of his family farming enterprise through these strategies, which have increased productivity and business resilience. Discover how this transformation, through connected supply chains and high value market opportunities, is securing the future for Grant's family farm and reshaping conversations about sustainable production.
With a mix of theory, practical and Q&A, this session will give you plenty of ideas to take back to your own business.

Grant Sims will share how these practices have been implemented in his family’s mixed farming enterprise in northern Victoria, including some of their learnings along the way.
Grant will also delve into the selection, agronomics and management of multi-species pastures/fodders/covers for different farm systems and environments.
GRANT SIMS- MULTI SPECIES PASTURES AND COVER CROPS FIELD DAY
Grant Sims is sixth generation farmer running the family farm in Northern Vic. The farm comprises 8500 acres of dryland and some irrigation.
The Sims farm has been utilizing no-till since the early 80's. In 2008 the family stopped using granular synthetic fertilizers and started using biological liquid fertilisers. They also stopped using seed dressing, insecticides and fungicides, unless absolutely necessary.
The Sims have a strong focus on diversity and grow cereals, companion, and cover crops, and have integrated grazing into their system. They have seen many positive changes in the health of their soils and plants and conduct many on-farm trials.
This field day will focus on multi species for pastures and cropping, and we will ensure there is ample time for discussion and questions.
